Saint Louis Wedding and Portrait Photographer: A Trip to Scotland

Sep 14, 2018 | By: Josephine Havlak, Photographer

I have always loved the romance of English history, and my husband Jon is an architect, so we were both really excited to join our daughter Julie for her spring break in Scotland where she was studying abroad for the semester at St. Andrews University.  We spent a glorious ten days zooming around Scotland trying to see as much as we possibly could - the landscapes, the castles, the cathedrals, the towns, the distilleries, museums, etc.

This is the first of three blog posts, and this one documents our first three days in and around St. Andrews.  We stayed at a very charming B&B in Crail, a small and beautiful nearby seaside village and saw the university itself, the ruins of the St. Andrews Cathedral, and Stirling Castle - a must-see for fans of Dorothy Dunnett’s wonderful historical novels set in Renaissance Scotland and Europe.

Of course, I couldn’t have enjoyed the trip if I had not been recording absolutely everything with my wonderful Canon equipment.  My very patient husband, who I met in a photography class at Rice University, and my daughter, who practically grew up with a camera in her hand, indulged and advised me at every stop.

I would also like to give a shout-out to my husband’s firm, PGAV Destinations, whose generous “PGAV-GO” plan helped make this trip possible. They specialize in tourism and helping destinations worldwide tell their stories so that their visitors leave with unforgettable memories.  A little bit like what I do with my work.

There is something about photography that makes you are see everything more intensely.  I really do love my job, and I really wish I had more time for travel photography.
